Video Evaluation
From the feedback received from my peers on my video, I thought that I excelled in the following areas, technology, creativity and aesthetics receiving a majority of level 4’s for that section, however could have improves on the understanding and production values section, as feedback from peers indicated that there was too much text to take in and also the slides were too fast also wasn’t very many quotes and statistics which would have pushed my work into the level 4’s for all areas of the ACTUP, however on the bright side I thought my production was unique, as quite alot of my peers indicated that they liked the ending with the Google search and leaving them with the question, how big will the internet become? Overall I was happy with the way my video turned out and the feedback it got, I shall take onboard the constructive criticism and shall apply it to the future.

Summary of the Internet Blog
1 TAKE THE LONG VIEW
“We're
living through a radical transformation of our communications environment”
A thought experiment -> Comparison between Gutenberg’s
printing press and the internet and how after 17 years no one knows how profound
the impact would be. With the internet becoming so big, businesses may be at
threat. Print journalists and their
employers want to know what's going to happen to their industry. Likewise the
music business, publishers, television networks, radio stations, government
departments, travel agents, universities, telcos, airlines, libraries and lots
of others.
2 THE WEB ISN'T THE NET
The web is huge and very important, but it's just one of the
many things that run on the internet. The net is much bigger and far more
important than anything that travels on it.
3 DISRUPTION IS A FEATURE, NOT A BUG
In the 1970s, Vint Cerf and Robert Kahn, the lead designers,
were faced with two difficult tasks: how to design a system that seamlessly links
lots of other networks, and how to design a network that is future-proof -> by
implementing these twin protocols
4 THINK ECOLOGY, NOT ECONOMICS
Life was now morphing into an ecosystem in which billions of
smaller species consume, transform, aggregate or break down and exchange
information goods in much smaller units – and in which new gigantic life-forms
(Google, Facebook) are emerging.
5 COMPLEXITY IS THE NEW REALITY
Our emerging information
environment is more complex – in terms of numbers of participants, the density
of interactions between them, and the pace of change – than anything that has
gone before. This complexity is not an aberration or something to be wished
away: it's the new reality, and one that we have to address.
6 THE NETWORK IS
NOW THE COMPUTER
Transition from a world in which
the PC really was the computer, to one in which the network is effectively the
computer. Data stored on the cloud rather than networks.
“Sleepwalking
into this brave new world”
7 THE WEB IS
CHANGING
Web
has gone through at least three phases of evolution – from the original web
1.0, to the web 2.0 of "small pieces, loosely joined" (social networking, mashups,
webmail, and so on) and is now heading towards some kind of web 3.0 – a global
platform based on Tim
Burners-lee 's idea
of the 'semantic web'
8 HUXLEY AND
ORWELL ARE THE BOOKENDS OF OUR FUTURE
Neil Postman predicted that the
insights of two writers would, like a pair of bookends, bracket our future.
Aldous Huxley believed that we would be destroyed by the things we love, while
George Orwell
thought we would be destroyed by the things we fear.
The
net has been a profoundly liberating influence in our lives – creating endless
opportunities for information, entertainment, pleasure, delight, communication,
and apparently effortless consumption
9 OUR INTELLECTUAL
PROPERTY REGIME IS NO LONGER FIT FOR PURPOSE
Digital
technology has provided internet users with software tools which make it
trivially easy to copy, edit, remix and publish anything that is available in
digital form. As a result, millions of
people have become "publishers" in the sense that their creations are
globally published on platforms such as Blogger, Flickr and YouTube.

The Internet
How much information is in circulation on the internet (in gigabytes)?
Eric
Schmidt, the CEO of Google, the world’s largest index of the Internet,
estimated the size at roughly 5 million terabytes of data. That’s over 5
billion gigabytes of data.
Internet
data heads for 500bn gigabytes, at 487bn
gigabytes (2009)
Digital
Universe report in 2007, reckoned the world's total digital content was 161bn
gigabytes. About 70% of the information is created by individuals and includes
phone calls, emails, photos, online banking transactions or postings on social
networking sites, including Twitter. The amount of information that must
be retained to comply with rules and regulations is expected to grow from 25%
of the digital universe last year to 35% in 2012.

Nature of Information
Nature of Information
With the internet becoming so popular and people having more of a responsibility i.e people changing information on Wikipedia, some information may not be accurate or up to date, therefore providing false info and therefore the internet changing the nature of information.
Communication
I think
that internet has changed the way we communicate as applications such as
‘Skype’ has allowed users to communicate more efficiently across the world as
users can communicate via webcam. Also the internet has allowed people to find
and communicate with old friends from the past with sites such as ‘facebook’.
Privacy
Community
“"The Internet stole my body, now a lifeless form hunched in front
of a glowing screen. My senses dulled as my greedy mind became one with the
global brain we call the Internet.”
“The
Internet has changed my thinking about my ability to reach out to people, and
about one’s ability to build communities and to influence incremental change.”
I think
that the internet has changed communities, especially the younger generation as
internet has opened new doors for the young, it has given many opportunities
for people. However possibly effecting them negatively as some people may be
glued to the internet, causing them to lose their social skills due to the
unhealthy amount of internet usage .
Online
Safety

"Children, especially adolescents, are sometimes interested in and curious about sexuality and sexually explicit material. They may be moving away from the total control of parents and seeking to establish new relationships outside their family." - FBI, A Parent's Guide to Internet Safety
"Children, especially adolescents, are sometimes interested in and curious about sexuality and sexually explicit material. They may be moving away from the total control of parents and seeking to establish new relationships outside their family." - FBI, A Parent's Guide to Internet Safety
I think
that the internet has changed online safety, as with more and more businesses
going online it would mean that the internet would need to be safe and secure
for people to input their bank details, also online safety has changed as there
has been a decrease within bullying on social media platforms.
Copyright

"Today's generation of youth have got used to downloading files and getting things instantly. They expect a great deal of information for free, making it hard for marketers to promote pricey products online"
"Today's generation of youth have got used to downloading files and getting things instantly. They expect a great deal of information for free, making it hard for marketers to promote pricey products online"
I think that the
internet has allowed millions of people to illegally download films and music,
therefore being a factor contributing to the illegal activity of downloading
and breaching copyright, however recently broadband providers such as ‘virgin’
and ;BskyB’ have banned certain sites such as pirate bay, therefore reducing
copyright issues.
Culture
"Thanks to the Internet, people can directly choose what to promote and share, and therefore what becomes culture"
I think that the internet has allowed people to understand different cultures, as people can easily research different cultures, therefore changing culture as people can understand more about different cultures
Business
I think that the
internet has changed the way businesses operate as it has opened up many doors
for businesses as it has opened up the e-commerce market, where businesses sell
products via the internet, examples being ‘eBay’ and ‘Amazon’ the dominant
e-commerce market leaders.
